Death of Fred Gerhard Shocks Local Community
The account of Fred Gerhard's death last week cites multiple witnesses. He worked at the ice plant Friday, was in Malta Bend Saturday, and was last seen on a depot truck at 11 pm. Howey Cancels Marshall Chautauqua Plans For Summer
Superintendent J R Howey in charge of Marshall Chautauqua arrangements arrived Monday to revive the event but faced obstacles and cancelled the meeting Tuesday. He reports losses ranging from 30 to 1250 dollars per engagement except Kirksville where he netted about 500 dollars. Delays prevented securing the big ten in time and advertising was insufficient, so he postponed to next summer hoping for a warmer reception and better results.

Mrs Goodman Sustains Arm Breaks After Fall Near Gilliam
Mrs. W Goodman aged 78 slipped and fell at her Gilliam area home Thursday morning, breaking her right arm near the shoulder and again near the wrist. Dr Miller of Gilliam treated her, and she is reported doing fairly well despite her age.
