Mrs Dearborn Vanstone died at her home in Siater Sunday morning August 13 after a short illness of peritonitis. She was daughter of the late B R Page and reared in this city. Survived by husband and a four year old son Nelson Page. Funeral held at home 1 p m then to Ridge Park cemetery Marshall. Sympathies extended to the bereaved husband.
Mrs. T. T. Cobb nee Catherine Lewis Harper died at her South Lafayette home on Wednesday after a long illness from a tumor. Survived by her husband and four children Mrs. Wm. Drysdale Odessa Thos H Cobb St. Louis W. S Cobb Carroll county Mrs. J. W. Hyland Marshall and many grandchildren. Born in Kentucky January 10 1838 she moved to Lafayette county and married T. T. Cobb in 1859. Funeral services were held in the afternoon and burial was at Ridge Park Cemetery.
Randolph 58, of a farm two miles west of Cre tcher, died August 9 1911 after a short illness aged 64 years 3 months 3 days. Survived by seven children M. B. Sims T. A. Sims Nancy Barnes Lee Bertram Panlo Dickerson Jane Bryson and G. W. Sims. Born Madison county Kentucky, moved Boone county 1840, Saline 1874, resided on same farm. Civil War veteran, member Old School Baptist Church. Married Sallie Sima in 1847. she died 10 years ago. Services at Goshen church near Cre tcher. Burial near wife’s grave.
Marion Bryson aged 68 died of heart trouble at his son s home on George Young farm two miles southwest of Slater last Friday. He was buried the next day in Greatville cemetery. He is survived by three sons and one daughter.
Mrs Naomi Hubbard died at Slater Thursday night after a long illness. She was 12 years 3 months and 19 days old and survived by six descendants. Funeral arrangements were set for Saturday.
Margaret Booker, longtime Houx family servant of 17 years, died after a six year illness on Thursday August 10. Funeral services were held at the Fairville Baptist church on Saturday. Paris Walker sent remains to her mother in Ft. Madison, Iowa.
Mrs Susan White died near Arrow Rock on August Sth from typhoid fever aged about 55. A devout Baptist member for many years, she was laid to rest by the U. B. F. Lodge at Union Hill on August 1h.
Aged resident Chrie Hueppel about 85 fell into a well on Well Road near Sweet Springs and drowned during his son Charles' absence at a sale. Survived by two sons nearby, widow predeceased by 12 years. He served in the Union army, was an Odd Fellow, and drew a pension. Richard Alpers verified facts but offered few details on the well.

Receipts of cattle were moderate with good cattle at 614 ct a pound and up, rising 25 to 50 ct per cut. Medium cattle up 25 ct, common steady. Choice cows selling very high, medium kinds steady. Hog receipts light first two days then heavy, prices down 5 to 10 ct on most classes, best hogs no more than 5 ct lower. Packers offered $7.50 to $7.60. Prediction for continued strong market with good cattle still rising. Draggon Becker & Co.
Fire crews from the Local Market department were dispatched around 9:10 to an incident at a site described as Peteees Evaporator North, with responders reporting a minor fire and no injuries. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.
Regular August term proceedings include petitions by Wm Vanwinkle to vacate and Hugo Cross to change roads with notices filed and hearings set. Agent reports by Highway Engineer, orders for coal bidding, tax book abstracts, and quarterly farm jail visits. Election results reviewed, financing for county facilities approved, and jury lists prepared for September term. Virginia Durrett, clerk, announces tax and bond actions, and insulin reports noted.
A local automobile sale features fifteen cars with varied makes and models. Bidders and buyers gather to inspect sedans coupes and trucks as prices start to rise.
A Kansas City couple, Wade and Mrs Smith, faced a chain of events starting with marital estrangement and a move to stay with relatives near the depot. An attempted shooting at the Lindsey home ended when Mrs Smith left with her husband after barricades and a warning by law, followed by Smith surrendering to sheriff and facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon and later disturbing the peace.
Rev O P Russell pastor of the First Baptist church surprised his congregation by resigning to take effect in one month and accept a charge in California. Rev J B Cortner preached at the Union service on prayer with well handled sermon. Epworth League will meet Friday evening at Mrs J Blackburns in southeastern Marshall. Evangelical church plans a camp meeting at Wilming's Grove beginning Sept 1. Christian Science subject for next Sunday is Mind at 11 am.

Levi Smith of near Napton writes that he expects to return home this week after a pleasant month at Excelsior Springs.

Large crowd greets Hagenbeck-Wallace show but crowd left disappointed as parade canceled due to intense heat. Performances draw praise though with well attended acts. A race injury occurs when a horse falls on a man.
John Boggs from near Slater came Friday seeking help after a six month ordeal from a hose coupling strike on the C and A railroad. He endured neck stiffness and a nearly useless arm, consulting Kansas City specialists and local doctors with little relief before osteopath R H Nuckles pinpointed the issue and corrected the dislocation. Boggs reports no brain injury relief yet but is now able to enjoy life again.
T A McAllister of McAllister Springs reported a mule was killed Saturday when a scraper cut off its leg while cleaning a pond. Nearby neighbor Hiram Rothrock also lost a mule on the same day, several weeks prior.
W L Crain of near Sweet Springs says a caller last Thursday night helped himself to his purse from near the bed. The purse containing about $3 was taken and Crain hopes it will be sent back.
W. T. Chatham of Lamonte township fell through a barn loft floor Saturday night and fractured three ribs. He was not as seriously injured as first reported and is resting well at home.
H Ohlendorf who bought the Daily Meat Market from T R Fowler about a month ago leased it Saturday to Al Deis who took possession Monday. Ohlendorf says meat prices deterred profit and Deis will move his West North Street grocery stock to the shop and close the grocery end of the business.
Le Mae autoists passing through caused a runaway at Mt Leonard yesterday. Harvey Horton was thrown from his wagon and badly hurt. A Mr. Baker, in charge of the auto, was arrested upon arriving in Marshall.
Mrs Gophia Butte of Gilliam is visiting in Marshall. The social note notes her stay and local greetings during the period.
A local weather note recalls a week of extreme heat. A. L. Liggett of Slater provided maximum daily temperatures, typically reached around 4 PM, with Tuesday’s reading taken earlier at 2 PM, showing lower values. The piece urges readers to store the figures for future reference when heat returns.
J. R. Atchley kept a yearly milking record and on Tuesday evening shared details. He produced 180,006 pounds of milk in 1,420 hours with milking never exceeding seven minutes and always starting on time. The milk fetched an average price per gallon and an average of 39 cows were milked.
