Shoes stolen from store lead to trial and conviction
G. McClain brought John Jenkins of Arrow Rock to await trial in the criminal court for stealing 41 pairs of shoes from QG. P. Martins. Jenkins was tried before Squire Diggs and found guilty after claiming help from a white man who urged the theft. He admitted breaking in via a rear window Friday evening and attempting to exchange shoes Saturday, leading to his capture. the other man escaped prosecution as Jenkins story was doubted.

James Gray a former Marehail citizen was killed in a Lexington coal mine Tuesday evening by a falling rock. The remains were sent to Gilliam and then taken to Fish Creek for burial.
