Mrs Emily Mikles aged 75 died at her Salt Springs home ten miles southwest of Marehall on March 2 at 2:40 a.m. after a long illness from cancer. Funeral held Monday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev William Leatherman of Malta Bend. Burial in Salt Springs cemetery. Born in Montgomery County in 1894, she married Thomas Mikels in 1864 and lived in Saline County and Ohio before settling at Salt Springs. Survived by five children J C Mikels J J Mikels O D Mikels Miss Laura B Cravens and Mrs Jonnie H Champmlain. also grandson Menton Cravens. Husband predeceased her about thirteen years ago.

Fire damages Duncan home. curtain caught fire
Firefighters were called to Ben Duncan's residence on West Jackson Street about 8:20 Saturday night. A child picked up a lump in her hand igniting a window curtain and spreading to a feather bed, which was destroyed. Damages totaled about $50 and were covered by insurance.

The Ministers Alliance held its regular weekly meeting at Farmers Savings Bank Monday morning. A June Union meeting was proposed to be led by Brown and Curry of Balome Springs Arkansas. Davie of Nevada Camp No. S142 for board of directors was adopted. A. L. Preston of Marshall and Ell Mantel of Gilliam were elected delegates to the Sedalia late camp in May. The home of Thomen Marshall, in charge of the Colony laundry, was struck by lightning Thursday evening, damaging chimney, dining room, door and one window. the family was unhurt. No other damage reported.
