Farm notes warn harvesters and trucks must be cleaned before leaving fields or traveling public roadways to prevent spread of noxious weed seeds. Weed supervisors will stop harvest machinery on highways for inspection. The notice cites The Noxious Weed Act and urges timely lawn weed control and autumn fertilization to curb weed seed spread and promote healthy turf.
Manitoba announced snowmobile registrations will begin in October at motor vehicle branches and vendors. Licences cost 15 dollars valid to 30 September 1973, with earlier year reductions and refunds. Plates are cream with green numerals, attach to both sides of the cowling, and may be transferred or replaced. Registration aims to identify offenders, not raise revenue, with exemptions for northern communities and certain manufacturers. Operators must be 18 or 16 with parental consent. act allows crossing roads and highway ditches with a valid licence. Estimated 20 000 to 25 000 snow mobiles in the province.
