Birdtail River S D No 38 Board Meeting October 23 1975

The Birdtail River School Division No 38 held a regular board meeting on Thursday October 23 1975 at 8 p.m. Attending were trustees Waddell Huberdean Tolton Lewycky Armitage Bunn Rapley Choptuik Kreager Falloon and Director of Education al Services Mr Roy White. Correspondence covered collective agreement amendments facility use and recreational district matters. Motions adopted included adopting Oct 9 minutes, accepting resignations, creating a policy manual, purchasing a division bus garage, hiring a part time mechanic, and approved several facility uses and tire and fuel tenders. Adjournment set for Nov 5 1975.

Rivers Seed Plant Accepts Cree Grant for Rivers Facility

The Farmers' Co operative Seed Cleaning Plant accepted a $161,000 incentive from the Department of Regional Economic Expansion to establish a new plant at Rivers. A sod-turning ceremony is set for October 28 with federal, provincial and municipal officials attending. Operation aims for March 1976 to meet spring seed planting needs. The plant, serving farmers within about 40 miles, will expand capacity and provide seed processing from foundation through commercial seed. The cooperative serves 900 Manitoba members. The grant covers 25 percent of capital costs estimated at $625,000 and 15 percent of incremental wages and costs, under the Regional Economic Expansion Act.

Park Residence News Hospitalized Residents and Club Outing

The Park Residence reports several residents hospitalized including Mr F Hartnell Mrs W Gregory and Mr H Moore wishing them a quick recovery. Others attended the Golden Age Club at Beulah with Mr and Mrs Jameson driving them and reporting a lovely afternoon. Mrs Wisner anniversary attendance at St Davids Church prompted a floral arrangement. Delbridge escorted her to view the community church praised for upkeep and the Quartets and Junior Choir provided special music.

Studded Tires Now Legal In Manitoba Province

The Manitoba Department of Highways warns motorists that studded tires are permitted on vehicles. Studded tires may be installed starting October 1 and must be removed by April 30 of the following year.

Birdtail River Fine Arts Festival Classes Announced

HAMIOTA The Birdtail River Fine Arts Festival runs November 4 to 7 with competitive and non competitive classes including speech choir solo items drama club pieces folk and square dancing gymnastics and original poetry displays. Adjudicator is Mrs Judy Acheson of Winnipeg a veteran with many years in the field. Folk dance judges include Mr Jim Belford from University of Manitoba education faculty. Programs are available.
