Miniola U C W held its meeting with no Mrs Chas Fl lerington present and Mrs F Rowan spoke on dealing with those behind locked doors during the service. Tea was served by Mrs G Long and Mrs Wes Lelond.
The Young Peoples organization named officers for the coming year with President Ann Ron McKenzie and Vice Bob McKenzie. A meeting is set for Arrow River on Sunday October 27 at 8:30. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Powell on their 25th wedding anniversary. Explorer and CGLT groups are led by Nash Sloan Long Armitage Mossop.
Beulah 4H Club and United Mothers and Girls interested in 4H and WI members met on Wednesday October 9 for a social evening. Barbara Doyle and Janice Morgan led singing and games. Carol Gies thanked retiring leader Mrs. C Frazer and Barbara Doyle presented a token of appreciation.
Beulah W I members meet October 10 at Mrs C Frazer's home with six members and one visitor. They collect fruit or vegetables for the hospital and plan to publicize a Manitoba Medical Service plan meeting later this month. Plans for lunch at Geo Ringland’s cattle sale and catering for the Teacher Trustee dinner on November 1 are set. Mrs Mann presides. reports from fall district board and hospital aid are shared. Crandall girls beat Miniota in a volleyball match while Miniota boys won two of three games at Miniota on October 10. Miniota teams lost both matches at Kenton on October 17. A Halloween party is planned for November 1 and a student records purchase is under consideration. Fellowship Youth meets at Arrow River on October 27 at 8 p.m.
On resumption of Parliament the house saw five parties, with the Credit group led by Real Caouette. Judy LaMarsh proposed raising Old Age Security from 65 to 75 for those 70 and over, funded by increasing income tax on OAS to 4 percent. Opposition motions on retroactivity and nuclear arms talks failed. turkey imports and a longshoremen strike affected shipments as 3,800 workers faced unemployment and 29 ships waited in port.
Local residents and visitors are listed from Thanksgiving weekend with names from Winnipeg Brandon and nearby towns. Highlights include Miss Gladys McKenzie visiting the McKenzie homes, Ann Stamford from Brandon, and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Ellerington visiting Selkirk relatives. Clarence Ernest Shier, born 1901, died Tuesday morning after a sudden illness while visiting his son in Edmonton. He married Helen Parker in 1926, is survived by two sons Gerald and Barry, a daughter Beverley Barteaux, and several siblings. A memorial service was held October 15 at Crandall United Church with Rev. Bowins and choir.

Marjorie Alice Peel and Jerrold Robert Bone wed in a double ceremony at Augustine United Church Winnipeg on September 28 1963. Rev W D Titus officiated with Ellen McCombe as soloist. They plan to reside at 509 Langevin St St Boniface after a Whiteshell and Superior honeymoon.
The family of the late C. E. Shier expresses sincere thanks to Rev Bowins relatives friends and neighbors for kindness messages sympathy and floral offerings received after the recent bereavement.
