Priority For Increased Grain Advances Urged
Winnipeg Manitoba Minister of Agriculture J Douglas Watt has telegrammed federal ministers urging the Prairie Grain Advance Payments Act ceiling rise from 3000 to 6000 dollars. He says the change should take effect quickly due to slow grain sales and a late Manitoba harvest from wet weather. Watt also seeks a raise in advance payments per bushel from 50 to 100 cents for wheat with corresponding increases for oats and barley, noting the higher ceiling only helps farms with more than 1000 acres unless per bushel payments rise.
