Surprise farewells mark Winnipeg departure for Leland couple

The Tag Day receipts for the Blind Institute totaled 2054. Neighbors held a surprise party at Mr and Mrs AJ Leland’s home on the eve of their departure for Winnipeg. Games and cards, a gift from Mrs D Deans, and thanks from the couple followed. Community singing and a dance with music by D Deans, plus a lunch, capped the evening. Several ladies gathered at Mr and Mrs WJ Collier’s home for another farewell as Mrs Leland received best wishes and a parting gift.

Club leaders are reminded the Conference will be held in Shoal Lake on Friday November 26. A new bulletin board displays pamphlets. visitors may obtain copies. Mrs Jack McMillan reports discovering an egg inside another egg the outer shell baseball sized and containing a perfect egg. Hamiota can keep up with the latest.

Provincial convention set in Winnipeg December 5 to 8

Membership dues due in November. Representatives from Provincial government, labor groups, and farm organizations in Canada and the U.S.A. will address the convention in Winnipeg from December 5 to 8.

Two More Boar Clubs Join Blaris and Arrow River

The region adds Blaris and Arrow River clubs with caretakers John Dyck Blaris and R Gl Mitchell Arrow River, bringing total active Boar clubs in the area to six. Local farmers list Rodney Oats seed producers from 1953 including L Craig N W Foster Miniota J M Bell Isabella W Taylor Crandall D Russell Two Creeks W F Smith J Butler Pope N R Kirk Decker. The Hamiota district ranks high for clubs in western Manitoba with five Garden four Calf four Seed and one Potato club and 14 Girls Clubs planned. 4 H Club pledge to parents commits heads hearts hands and health to youth projects and country welfare.

George’s recovery shows a crippled child’s strong comeback

George, a nineteen year old from rural Manitoba who contracted poliomyelitis in 1952, lost use of his right arm but with support from the Society for Crippled Children and the March of Dimes he pursued a junior accountancy course. He now writes with his left hand and types twenty words a minute, becoming a potential productive citizen. His family’s finances were dire, but treatment enabled him to complete ten months of schooling and seek employment.
