Rural Training Grants Support Teacher Education in Manitoba
Education Minister Ian Turnbull announced 40 000 grants to Aggaiz and Boundary school divisions in southeastern Manitoba to fund TERM projects. Up to 124 education students from the University of Manitoba will complete part of their training in these divisions during 1977 78, with both undergraduate and graduate students eligible. Projects aim to attract rural teachers and boost professional development, chosen for need service availability and cooperation of local staff. TERM, started in winter 1976, is run by a governing steering committee and area committees in each division.

Limited influenza vaccine available for high risk groups
The Health Centre reports a scarce flu vaccine from the Department of Health and Social Development will be distributed by local family physicians. The vaccine protects against Influenza Victoria A and Hong Kong B. It is free for those at high risk including patients with chronic heart or lung disease, diabetes, renal disease, malignancy, immunodeficiency, and those over 65, especially in institutions. Healthy adults without these conditions should expect a fee. Eggs or chicken allergies exclude vaccination. Vaccination is not expected before the end of October. further updates will be published.

Westman Arts Council Forms For Brandon Event
The Westman Arts Council held an organizational meeting in Brandon on September 22 1977 to promote art in Westman. Two members from each of eight rural districts and four from Brandon City area were appointed with Lena Robinson and Alma Dixon representing Hamiota. The plan includes a Western Manitoba festival in Brandon featuring music dance painting sculpture drama writing needlework woodwork and other hobbies plus workshops clinics demonstrations and an art mart.
