Winter and regional sports plans outlined by district leader

Regular Influenza Vaccine Arrives for 1977-78 in Manitoba

Manitoba receives the first consignment for the 1977 78 flu season and distributes doses to health units hospitals and physicians for high risk groups including seniors in care facilities chronic heart and lung diseases diabetes and kidney conditions about 26000 doses for adults and 1000 for children under 18 are available free of charge through doctors hospitals out patient departments and regional health offices.

Manitoba MACC to resume processing old land leases

Agriculture Minister Jim Downey announced the Manitoba Agricultural Credit Corporation will proceed with pre freeze land lease and purchase applications under the old program. About 50 applications before the MACC were to be received and processed in the normal pre October 26 rules, with farmers free to match offers or switch to a new system under development.

Crop Coverage Rates To Change Minimally

Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation will keep most crop premium rates and coverages nearly the same for the coming year. Wheat, oats, flax, fall rye, rapeseed, mustard, mixed grain, field peas, sunflowers, buckwheat and corn were recalculated from 1976 yields and losses. Corn rates will drop and coverage rise due to favorable 1976 yields, while risk area 15 will see decreased coverage and higher premiums due to unfavorable conditions in 1976. Potatoes unchanged, sugar beets priced higher per ton for 1978. Farmers choose between two value selections. hail spot loss rates hold, with a one-year lag before new rates take effect.

Safer Driving Urged by Manitoba Minister

WINNIPEG Manitoba Highways and Public Works Minister Harry Enns urged safer driving during Safe Driving Week. He noted that thousands of Canadians were involved in serious traffic accidents last year and emphasized the need to drive with care.

Manitoba Snowmobile Program Is Certified

WINNIPEG The snowmobile operator training program offered by his department has been certified by the international Snowmobile Safety and Certification Committee on quality and content. Highways and Public Works minister Harry Eans announced. The province joins Maine Michigan and Pennsylvania as the only snowbelt jurisdictions with certified training. The committee linked to the International Snowmobile Industry Association aims for uniform standards and reciprocal recognition among provinces and states. The Manitoba program covers maintenance safety training and environmental awareness for safe use of snowmobile areas facilities and trails.
