Cannington Manor and the ill fated English prairie colony
Prairie Trails recounts Cannington Manor founded in 1882 by William Pierce to teach English gentlemen farming in Western Canada. Wealthy settlers built grand estates, hosted fox hunts and cricket, then shifted to modest farming as money waned. A flour mill, pork factory and two cheese factories emerged before a bypassed railway doomed growth. Today manor houses are being restored as Saskatchewan preserves heritage.
