Winter slows engine starting as batteries lose power around 40 percent at 0F. Keep battery fully charged and ensure regulator, generator, and belts work. Follow manual for booster cables, avoid ether except when turning, limit starter use to 20–30 seconds with 1 minute rest, and warm diesel before fuel. Use winter grade 1-D fuel, avoid holdover gasoline in summer, and run engines with short warmups and light loads to speed up heating.

WINNIPEG The Manitoba highway safety division issues the Snowmobile Riders Handbook for snowmobile registration rules. It covers registration requirements, licence plate transfer, required equipment, cross highway rules, operation in road rights of way and highway ditches, riding techniques, surface conditions, safety gear for long trips, and common hazards. Automatic registration suspensions apply for crimes including hit and run, impaired operation, intoxicated driving, breathalyzer refusal, dangerous driving, criminal negligence, or licence suspension. Accidents must be reported to police, and local municipal regulations may further restrict snowmobile use.
The Virden Progressive Conservative Association met in Rivers Ukrainian Hall on Monday November 9. Officers elected for the year include President Max Caldwell Rivers and Treasurer Bob Brydon Hargrave. Delegates chosen for the Manitoba PC Convention in Winnipeg November 20 21 22: G Wilson Lenore Louis Tolaini Virden W Sibbald Alexander S Hegion Virden with Linda Madden Young PC. Alternate delegates listed. Speaker Harry Enns MLA Lakeside lauded PC reforms and education housing highway upgrades flood protection, noting party voting with government on many bills.
Mrs Campbell visited with daughter Mrs Evan Whites at Rivers last week. Cliff Shurvell and family from Sioux Lookout Ontario were weekend visitors. Emerson home hosted Mr and Mrs H Miller and Mrs Taylor of Rossburn. Senior Choir assisted with Thursday service. Mrs Smith visited Kenton family. Baldwin family visited Saturday. Doug Mitchell of Brookdale visited aunt Mrs Arthur Sunday. Bardwell weekend guests included Shurwell of Winnipeg and daughter Mrs Armitage of Miniota. Sutherland visits Isabella this week. John Gunson and family visited Brandon to see his son Russell. stopped at P Pearce home in Rivers for tea. Jesse Jory’s visitors included Maurice Johnston and Grant Whyte, Jean Whyte, Ben Sutherland of Brandon, Bill Kerr, Jack and Mae Roberts of Shoal Lake, Dorothy Kirk, Eva Greenaway of Brandon, Archie Black with Delbridge on Sunday. Gardham group from Arrow River called on Mrs Gardham. Robertson visited Miniota with Bud Barrett.
