Crandall UCW Meet Details and Annual Welfare Report

The Crandall United Church Women group gathered on November 11 with President Mrs L Rudd and a full slate of officers and committees including secretaries, treasurers, and group leaders. The annual reports show 17 quilts, 415 clothing pieces and 77 mitts sent to Save the Children, 38 clothing items plus gifts, and support to Norway House and Brandon Indian School, plus local needs quilts and cash from quilt sales. Donations were made to Christian Caravans and Alcohol Education and Over and Above Gifts, with Mrs Stan Doupe contributing a notable entry.

Rosina Bohrn Dies at 83 in Brandon Canada

Rosina Bohrn aged 83 of 253 11th St East Brandon passed away at Brandon Gen Hospital on November 6. Born in Lenk Switzerland in 1881 she later lived in France and emigrated to the USA in 1911 then Canada in 1916 to marry Francis Bohrn. The family farmed in Miniota district before moving to Brandon in 1957. Survived by husband Francis two sons Alfred and Max a daughter Annibelle Lapointe a sister Mrs H Cronenwett a brother Chris Trachsel and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 10 at St Augustine Church with burial in Brandon Cemetery. Brockie Donovan Funeral Home in charge.

Miniota Happenings Mark 50th Wedding Anniversary

Mrs. Harvey Gardham hosted a family dinner in Miniota for Geo and Mrs. Torrance celebrating their 50th anniversary. Attendees included daughter A Vander Greaf of Winnipeg, 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, with a telegram from eldest grandson Duncan Mitchell Fort St John.

Division Finals Held at Miniota Arts Contest

Mr L Reynolds chaired the Division Finals at Miniota on Friday Nov 6. Jeffery Fulton grade 12 Birtle won The Challenge for Youth Today with runner Dawson Switzer Strathclair on Is Your Skin Black. Loreta Irwin grade 8% Birtle won the spelling, Allen Brodie Shoal Grade 7 runner-up. Dictionaries presented by Royal Bank, judge Mrs Yates ro for the Oratorical Contest. Dale Leland judged the impromptu speech winner.

Crandall Girls Volleyball Team Clinches Birdtail River Trophy

Crandall Girls Volleyball Team won the Birdtail River Division Trophy for the third straight year after a Round Robin at Shoal Lake where Birtle Foxwarren Miniota and Crandall contested. They head to Virden for the Zone finals this Saturday. The community mourns after a westbound CNR freight collision that killed one person Tuesday morning.

Hall Club Bingo Candy Bake Sale Acknowledges Winners

Friday night event in Hamiota raised $77.55 for the Hall and included prizes such as Len Stowe Box of Cookies and Larry Gies two chickens. Numerous community members helped, with many attending Remembrance Day activities and a Turkey shoot benefiting the community.

Mr and Mrs Frank Gard ham visited with their son in law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Orr of Foxwarren. Mrs Sutherland, home after a East holiday, toured Detroit visiting relatives, then at Point Perry, Lanark and Ottawa enjoying autumn scenery. She traveled from Toronto and spent days in Winnipeg with brother Jim Wilson. Mrs R Clegg visited Saskatoon last weekend. Arrow River Calf Club closes after years inactive. funds split between A R Home Economics Club and Miniota Calf Club. Mrs Norm Mooney and Donnie Woodworth visited N and W Lockhart homes. J Wiggins returned to Virden to see D S McDonald family. An evening in the Hall featured Court Whist, won by Mrs J McKinnon, with Mrs J Kirton as low. gents Ironside and D Leland also low. The gathering honored Mr and Mrs Lou Leland and Mr McKinnon who now reside in Miniota.
