Arrow River Visit Keeps Broad Family Ties Strong

Mr and Mrs W Lockhart and family visited H Maguire home in Brandon on Sunday. Mrs Peter Burr and daughter of Lenore are visiting Mr and Mrs Angus McKinnon. Mr and Mrs A Hymers and baby son Lance visit Mrs Hymers parents Mr and Mrs Page. Mr and Mrs Geo Jamieson and children of Grandview spent time together.

Local visitors in Winnipeg over the weekend and congratulations to Bingo winners in Crandall on November 8. UNICEF collection totaled 51.26 dollars on Halloween night with thanks to all contributors. Church groups met in Birtle and Minnedosa for rallies and Bible study. New moves include Sparks family relocation to Manson district and Beulah residents moving to Miniota. Shower for Mrs Ron Simpson to honor wedding

Monday evening at the Hall the community gathered to honor Mrs Ron Simpson nee Yvonne Hyndman after her marriage on Saturday November 4. Whist was played and Faye and Lois performed a playful telephone skit before the bride and groom were called forward to respond to a toast. Lunch followed and guests extended good wishes as the couple prepares to make their home in the West.

C G I T Initiation Ceremony For Lin da Goodwin And Patsy Wiens

C G I T girls and leaders hosted mothers and friends for the initiation of two new members Lin da Goodwin and Patsy Wiens. The president Linda Armitage and secretary Diane Williams presented pins and scope cards. Lanyard ceremony followed with five seniors named Linda Armitage Linda Leland Linda Mossop Judy Bryant and Diane Williams receiving lanyards. Mrs G Long led the service Judy Bryant assisted. Bible study plans announced for November 8 Our Father for juniors and Who is this King of Glory for seniors.

Isabella W I Meeting Highlights Annual Reports and Charity Drive

Isabella WI met at Mrs. L Wright home with 15 members. Mrs Coxworth led with the Creed as roll call noted Annual Fee. Reports and correspondence were read. Gifts to Brandon Mental Hospital planned and White Gifts for Children’s Aid. Mrs Campbell named to Hospital Committee. Leadership School report by Mrs Wall. Nominations by Mr Clark. slate of ten to elect officers next year. Lunch by hostess Mrs Ray Still. Red Cross tally: 191 pieces produced including shirts, pants, nightgowns, vests, jackets, quilts, and mitts.

Wedding Milne-Sawyer at Birtle United Church

Eleanor Anne Sawyer married James Milne at Birtle United Church on October 28. Rev. Whetter officiated as family and friends attended, with a reception at Beulah hall and a honeymoon planned amid good wishes. The bride wore a nylon taffeta gown with lace and tulle veil, carried American Beauty roses, and the bridal party wore blue and pink chiffon and nylon dresses with coordinated hats.

Miniota Board Meeting Notes October 30 1961

Board minutes from the Municipal Hall record attendance and routine actions. Transportation rate changes to routes serving Miniota are approved, along with school hours, fuel oil tenders, and a teacherage rent reduction. A $100 donation to the Birdtail River Music and Speech Arts Festival is approved, and cheques totaling $6192.63 are sanctioned for payment. Conference adjourned.

Miniota Community Centre Auction a Friday Success

The Miniota Community Centre held an auction on Friday November 3 with proceeds of 574.64 from peanut guessing jelly bean guessing lunch bake sale and sale itself. Auctioneer Lor ne Curry of Kenton provided services free of charge and thanks were extended to all contributors. Contest winners were Glen Sunley Isa bella and Wilf Hill and Russell Leland who tied for the jelly beans.

Miniota Carnival Planned by Community Groups

The Miniota Community Centre entertainment committee and rink committee, with school reps, held a Thursday night meeting on November 9 to organize a Carnival on December 30. A Carnival Queen race with three candidates from high school, public school, and curling club, plus a Glenlochar vs Miniota broom ball game, are planned. Tickets cost 10c each or 3 for 25c, with each ticket voting for a Queen candidate.

G Lyle Littlejohn D C enters into rest

George Lyle Littlejohn D C of Chilliwack B C passed away in Vancouver General Hospital on Wednesday October 30 1961 at age 54 Born Arrow River Man in 1907 he taught at Little Hilton and Virden before joining the R C A P He married Ethel M Penrose in 1942 and lived in Virden Toronto Bellville and Dafoe before overseas permanent return to Virden and later move to Chilliwack He was active in local churches and professional and civic groups Funeral services were held in Chilliwack and Virden with numerous pallbearers and interment in Virden Cemetery.
