Farmers may sow cover crops to curb soil drift with oats allowed for early spring or late summer sowing. Late moisture and regrowth risks exist after cutting, affecting yields next year. The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held a regular trustees meeting at Shoal on April 30 1970 at 8 00 p m with members Fulton Waddell Rapley Randell Hames Lewycky Founlard Hyndman Armitage Butcher and Falloon present. The agenda covered grants office space insurance highways flood measures and school operations. Motions approved include $44 for Birdtail River Secondary School Athletic Association expenses and securing student accident insurance pending parent releases. by law borrowing and debentures for 300 000. progress payment 12 for Hamiota Collegiate addition of 310. and staffing changes. The meeting adjourned at 11:50 p m.
A large crowd attended the Hospital Centennial Ball at the Hamiota Collegiate Auditorium on May 1 1970. Prize winners included Mrs W K Hames for authentic old time costume and Wayne Miller for multiple categories. Mr P N Gow and Mr John Whyte received recognitions for service and baseball work respectively.
Manitoba Attorney General Al Mackling urges mayors councils and citizens to focus on police work urging police tours of headquarters and public displays. May 10 to 16 designated Police Week aligning with national Police Week to boost understanding and cooperation between police and the public across Manitoba. The Hamiota RCMP invites citizens to visit the local detachment to meet officers and learn about their duties.
Miss Jean Morrice of Winnied on Mrs. Arthur last week. Peg Mr. Sandy Morrice of Tor onto visited this weekend with their mother Mrs. John Mor rice. Mr. and Mrs. D. Mitchell of Brookdale visited on Sunday with their aunt Mrs. Arthur. Mrs. Gleason of Vancouver called on Mrs. L. Hunkin, Mrs. W. Nankerville and son Dennis of Crandall were visitors at Mrs. Gardham’s last week. Mrs. Robertson spent Saturday with her son and daughter in law Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robertson. Mrs. Grace Jory of Kenton visited with Mrs. Hill recently. Mr. and Mrs. W. Collie, Carolyn and Graham of Regina spent the weekend with Mrs. Collie and other family members.
Mrs Kay Caldwell director of nursing and Mrs Nora Crampain of Hamiota Hospital Staff are commended for finishing a Supervisory Management course offered by the Manitoba Hospital Association and Brandon University. the program comprised 25 evening classes. a reception and banquet in Brandon University Dining Hall occurred on Monday April 27 where certificates were presented to thirty participants from western region hospitals.
