Convention Moves West To Brandon For Manitoba Institute

The Manitoba Women’s Institute Provincial Convention shifts to Brandon University June 9 to 11, with events at Evans Lecture Theatre and Flora Cowan Hall. Keynote speaker is Dr. E. J. Tyler of Brandon University, while W D McFarland reviews battered children policy. Activities include a Tuesday banquet and a Wednesday smorgasbord and centennial party.

Birtle District Women’s Institute Convention Held

The Birtle District Women’s Institute Convention will be held in Rivers on May 4 with the Rivers and Kirkham's Bridge hosts delivering a Centennial event. Attendees bring bag lunches while tea and coffee are available. Gwen Parker speaks on Home Visits and Hazel Mitchell on Rapeseed Oil. past officers receive special honors with certificates and banquet tickets. Brandon Barbershop Belles provide after banquet entertainment.

Dr Hodge summarizes from Canada Agriculture on enzootic pneumonia virus in pigs as the leading respiratory disease in commercial herds. Factors such as low temperature high humidity irritating gases drafts and sudden environmental changes worsen resistance while overcrowding and continuous production raise infection and virulence risk. When outbreaks occur vets must perform necropsies and bacteriological tests and adjust housing to optimum temperature humidity and drafts.

Ladies Hospital Aid Meeting At Hamiota

Hamiota Hospital District No 7A Ladies Aid met in the Community Room on Friday April 24 with 14 districts represented. Minutes approved and renovations to the hospital agreed. March activity reported 108 treated patients 13 major 39 minor 21 tissue 12 accidents 12. Blood used 19 bottles 4 local donors 6749 pounds laundry cost 539.92. Regional rep Mrs Verna Findlay spoke of the Fall conference in December and provincial fees remaining the same next year. About 200 copies of Auxiliary History to be kept on file. Annual regional May 14 in Brandon. supper June 19 at Cardale. hospital tea May 8. Meeting closed with Bendic.
