Michael Francis and the Native Craft Revival in New Brunswick
Dr Ivan Crowell, director of handicrafts for New Brunswick, discovered Michael Francis on Big Cove Reserve and supported him to work in the provincial craft and souvenir industry. Francis, an Indigenous artist from Mori¢ton and Big Cove, developed handwoven designs and early models inspired by Glooscap lore, evolving from paint and cards to a growing enterprise aimed at employing his people.
