Centennial Rink Opens At Miniota In Grand Ceremony
The Centennial Rink at Miniota officially opened on a weekend marked by a flag ceremony led by the Boy Scouts and attended by dignitaries including Walter Weir Morris McGregor MLA Reeve Harvey S Hyndman carnival queen and escorts RCMP corporal and Mrs Wagner and local officials. A figure skating program followed with Sharon Fowler and a series of age class races crowned youthful skaters across many divisions. The event honored communal fund raising and the effort of the carnival queen and attendants.

Costume Carnival Winners at Centennial Arena
A large crowd attended the Costume Carnival Saturday night at Centennial Arena in Minsota. Winners included prize girls in preschool, 1st Jan ice Walker Miss Muffet, 2nd Sandra Reeves and Kevin Wadham Bunny, and many more across age groups and categories. The Queen of the carnival was Madeline Chartier with Princesses Sharon Bryant and Taloneal Senves Kingdon, all of Birtle.

Merry Homemakers Meet at Miniota Collegiate Auditorium
The Miniota Merry Homemakers met on February 23 in the Miniota Collegiate Auditorium. President Sharon Attwood led a pledge, minutes were read and approved, and thirteen members joined the roll call. They voted to raffle an electric frying pan at the 4H Bake Sale on March 25.

Inter-Faith Service in Miniota Centennial Weekend
Centennial celebration weekend included an Inter-Faith Service at the Miniota Community Centre led by Rev. Jack Nield and Stan McTaggart. A mass choir accompanied by Mrs Ken Mitchell performed the Centennial Hymn and two songs while Rev. K A Moyer’s hymn text framed themes of faith, humility, and service to others.

Miss Madeleine Chartier was crowned Queen of the Carnival at the Mocassin Dance in Miniota's Centennial rink on Friday February 24. Reeve Harvey S Hyndman crowned her, with Miss Sharon Bryant and Miss Colleen Mos sop as princesses and Dennis Stewart as page boy. Robes were placed by Mrs J Cook, with Mrs George Bruce and Mrs W Gil christening the princesses. Fleming Orchestra provided the music.

Miniota UCW Meeting Highlights Budget and Plans
The Miniota United Church Women met in the church classroom last Thursday evening led by Mrs. Chas Ellerington with Miss FE Reynolds as secretary. Worship focused on God calls we offer ourselves. Budget included a request to extend the northern communication system. Birthday box held 7.85 dollars for 1966. A Vocational Guidance Kit will be placed in the High School. Reports covered the Provincial Presbyterian meeting at Minnedosa on Feb 20. Centennial songs and hymns planned. Irish date set for March 14. Next meeting May 4. New Bank Building Opens at Miniota in Royal Bank Ceremony
Royal Bank of Canada marks the official opening of a new Miniota branch on Saturday February 25 at 10 am. Manager E H Preston welcomed guests as J B Hanson from Winnipeg spoke amid remarks by S Smith and others. The Miniota rink hosted a Legion Bonspiel on February 18 with fourteen rinks including entrants from McAuley and Virden. Dave Lee of McAuley won the Air Force Event and Branch Trophy, with C Argue second. K Mitchell won the Army Event with J Weins second. J Bonner won the Navy Event with George Lee of McAuley second.
