Farm income dip in 1957 despite rising livestock output
The Monthly Review of The Bank of Nova Scotia reports a tougher year for Canadian agriculture in 1957 with poor prairie grain yields and lower prices for grains potatoes and eggs. Livestock and poultry production rose with record milk outputs but overall farm cash receipts fell about 5 percent from 1956 to just over 2.5 billion. Export prospects improved as wheat shipping revived and cattle exports to the United States resumed, aided by larger poultry and turkey production and expanding dairy output.
