Northwest Highway System marks end of Canadian Army tenure
After 18 years of operation, the Canadian Army hands the Northwest Highway System to the Department of Public Works on April 1. Lt General Walsh led the Royal Canadian Engineers in maintaining 1221 miles of road through five mountain ranges, 185 bridges, and 6000 culverts, with harsh winters and floods shaping a storied northern construction era.
