A Manitoba agriculture briefing outlines low fertilizer stocks and mixed soil test results. Officials warn against foliar or liquid fertilizer, citing lack of proven value and high cost, urging farmers to report outcomes from upcoming meetings on soils and land use.
Phillip Tomiski died at his Beulah home on February 10. Born in Kowalowka Austria in 1889, he moved to Canada in 1910 and farmed in Blaris for fourteen years. He married Elizabeth Lepischak in Rossburn in 1929. The Beulah United Church service was led by Rev Sloan on February 13, with burial in Birtle Cemetery. He leaves wife Elizabeth three sons John Brandon Bill Birtle Stanley at home two daughters Marion Brandon and Jean Tutkaluke eight grandchildren. Pallbearers included Bill Stracher. Chapel assisted arrangements.
On Saturday February 15 games between Isabella and Miniota saw the 11 and under team win and the 14 and under Isabella win at Miniota. A February lunch sale raised $10 and a Bake Sale on February 14 raised $40 for hockey equipment. The team from Arrow River and Miniota has four wins one tie and two losses and now sports new uniforms.

Crandall News reports multiple competitors earning top places at Decker, Lenore, and Kenton High School bonspiels. G Johnston, W Lipscomb, D Lee lead with firsts and thirds, while Margaret Henderson and Wendy Mitchell earn top spots in Kenton and Arrow River events. Education Week opens with Open House Friday February 28 as the district hosts Talent Night and school activities.
Isabella News reports Miss Jean Russet of Winnipeg visiting relatives in the district. The piece covers attendees at the Birtle Presbyterian U C W annual meeting in Hamiota, local visits by the Rittaler and Campbell families, and the start of the Ladies Bonspiel with sixteen rinks. Grade XII students from Western Manitoba high schools will attend Pre College Clinics and Seminars at Brandon College on March 6 7 and 13. About 750 students will take psych tests receive entrance information and learn about scholarships and bursaries to fund further education.
