Miniota Council Approves By laws and Grants 1965

The Miniota Rural Municipality held a June 1 1965 general meeting with Reeve H S Hyndman presiding. The council adopted minutes from May 4 and approved By laws 1497 1498 and 1499 while approving tax measures grants machinery funding and tenders. Delegates were named for university short course and regional meetings. A civic holiday was set for August 2 1965 and the council discussed land use and oil rights leases.

Pink Eye Outbreak Hits Manitoba Cattle Herds

Pink-eye reappears annually in Manitoba cattle, threatening dairy gains and beef production. Early signs include tears and lid closure, with hot painful eyes causing discomfort. Veterinarians warn of spread on pastures and advise confinement in dark, fly-free barns and specific medicines for treatment.

Afternoon U. C. W. Meet at Mrs. Reynolds Home

The afternoon U. C. W. met at the small home of Mrs. G. Reynolds on June 17 with 13 present. Mrs. Ellerington led worship from Kept by the Power of God and Mrs. Reynolds spoke on The Purpose of God and Christ. A World Day of Prayer report was read by Mrs. Stowe. Mrs. McDonald announced a U. C. W. fund to aid 30 leprosy patients for one year at 50 dollars each. Business was conducted by Mrs. Rowan and July recess agreed. The August meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Wes Lelord.

Evening U C W Meet Sets June Tea and Bake Sale

The Evening unit of the U C W met June 17 in church school rooms with 15 members and 8 visitors from the afternoon unit. Mrs Nash led worship and a program followed from God and His Purpose. A tea and bake sale was decided for Friday June 25. Mrs Jolley and Mrs Taylor led the program. Mrs Nash presented a guest book to Mrs Sloan, who is moving to Birtle, on behalf of the Evening Unit.

Beulah U C W Strawberry Tea and Bake Sale Set

District Happenings notes Beulah United Church Women's group hosts a Strawberry Tea and Bake Sale in the church basement Friday June 25 at 8 p.m. Adults 50 cents, children 12 and under 25 cents. Several local visits and travels are listed, including Winnipeg guests and hospital stays. A birth is reported at Birtle hospital on June 14 for Barry Asselstine family.

Margaret Ariss and Jack Dyrkacr Feted in Community Centre

Margaret Ariss and Jack Dyrkacr were honored guests at a gathering in the Community Centre on Saturday evening. The bride’s parents Mr and Mrs C Ariss hosted the event with corsages presented to the bride and her mother, an address by Tom Stewart, gifts carried in by friends, and thanks given by the bride. Lunch followed the social time.

Birdtail River Trustees Back Amalgamation Plan at Crandall

A meeting of the Birdtail River Trustees Association in Crandall on Tuesday evening June 15 approved a unanimous motion favoring amalgamation of the Manitoba Trustees Associations. Rene Prefontaine of Winnipeg spoke on the Michener Report recommendations for amalgamating secondary and elementary school boards.

Local notes from Miniota mention June 12 stillborn birth of a child to Mr and Mrs Bill Leary and several community visits. Ed Spalding attended a municipal short course in Winnipeg. Beulah resident Cecil Stowe works at Coop Hardware and Lumber. Town residents include Earl Johnson and Linda Goodwin leaving for summer with relatives. Miniota celebrates sewer hookup as one of Manitoba’s smallest towns. A bridal shower in Brandon honors Donna Fraser on July 17. Students Linda Goodwin Kathy Rollo Maureen Leland Patsy Wiens and Bob Gardham receive exemptions or exemptions based on high averages. Congratulations to Linda Armitage for first year arts at Brandon College and Joan Leland for home economics at the University of Manitoba. Maurice Currie plans summer studies in Winnipeg after two suppers.

Community Guests and Summer Plans Dominate Local Notes

Last weekend Miss Margaret Leland and Miss Faye Leland hosted friends including Miss Janette Lobb of Shilo and Miss Faye Richardson of Brandon. The Lelands and families plan a month long trip visiting London Ontario. Several local families hosted visitors and attended meetings and banquets across towns including Minnedosa Isa bella and Grandview. W I meals raised 174.61 dollars.

Regional Birdtail River Division meeting in Crandall

The Birdtail River Division Association held its regional convention at Crandall School Auditorium on Tuesday June 15 with 60 trustees present. Mr Prefontaine spoke on MSTA and USTAM amalgamation and divisional board control of all schools. A $25 donation supported the Hamiota music and arts festival set for April 27 28 29 1966.

Weekend Visits and Upcoming Meas Fastpitch in Crandall

Mrs John Hazlewood spent the weekend with her daughter Ina at Rivers. Congratulations to Steve Robus on his 80th birthday last Friday June 18. A meas and ladies fastball tournament will be held in Crandall on Sunday July 4 at 12 noon. Marion Henderson of Children’s Hospital Winnipeg visited her parents Mr and Mrs Nelson Henderson. Mr and Mrs Wallace Henderson and family Cardale visited the Nelson Henderson home. Mrs Willis Rubey of Duaphin visited her sister and brother in law the Sid Lewises last week.
