Grand Lodge Attendance and Local Memorial Plans Highlight Manitoba Note

M P Scott attends the Sons of England Grand Lodge in Winnipeg this week. Miniota prepares a memorial service for Great War soldiers with Rev James Savage delivering the address and United States Band leading songs. Citizens’ groups and youth associations join the parade from the municipal hall to the town park as a royal visit is recalled with hope for future greetings and goodwill.

Visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Ends in Halifax

The royal couple completed their Canada and United States tour by leaving Halifax aboard the Empress of Britain. Crowds from cities to hamlets witnessed daily pageantry as the King and Queen toured, strengthening imperial ties and earning praise for their gracious, human bearing. May and June are remembered as red letter days in the history of the two nations.

Miniota band unable to function after sole cornet player left town. Council passed a dog tax by law, one free for a farmer. Rev H C Harris ended a two year ministry at Isabella, succeeded by Rev J C Anderson. Movement for a war dead memorial with proposals for a hospital hall park and cenotaph.

Laments Dominion Government aid for Western farmers and argues it won’t boost exports. Calls for selling Canada’s annual wheat surplus of about 160 million bushels to meet world demand. Blames high tariffs and trade barriers for hindering exchange and urges earnest study by Western farmers and allies.
