Provincial forage crop specialists urge Manitoba farmers to cut alfalfa at bud to one quarter bloom and sweet clover at first bloom. Proper curing preserves leaves which hold most protein and vitamins, while swathers and hay conditioners reduce losses and improve quality.
At the Annual Meeting of the Children’s Aid Society of Western Manitoba in Brandon district citizens were elected to the Board of Directors. Mayor F. J. Coombs Hamiota J E Finkbeiner Isabella G H Thompson Oak River A McKean Minnesota will serve as liaisons between the community and the society. Community input and assistance can be directed to the local representative.
June 5 Miniota hosts Oak Lake 14 under win 13 to 3. June 7 Isabella plays Miniota 12 under win 24 to 6. June 11 Miniota hosts Crandall 12 under win 30 to 21. June 12 Virden visits Miniota 14 under win 13 to 3.
Dedication to Missions conducted by Rev Bowins on Saturday evening June 6 before the Bazaar and Strawberry Social. Messengers and Tyro groups presented their M and M givings totaling 145.82 to M and M. Graduation certificates were given by Mrs Steen to Anita Lewis etc. Proceeds from bazaar and lunch were 109.83.
The Manitoba Centennial Corporation extended the grant application deadline to December 31 1964 from August 1st at a Citizens Advisory Committee conference in Winnipeg and St Boniface. The extension, requested by several municipalities, aims to allow more time for local project decisions while ensuring completion before the centennial date. Hon Maitland B Steinkopf noted 80 to 85 percent of projects were expected by the original deadline.
A local Cancer Relief and Research campaign in Miniota raised 140.80 dollars. Convenors were Mrs. Gordon Long Mrs. Charles Ellerington and Mrs. A McKean. Canvassers included Mrs. Chas Watts Mrs. J. Popper Mrs. D. Russell and many others.
District Happenings notes multiple visits and anniversaries in Hamiota Walton Oak River Weyburn Brandon and Thompson. A drowning near Thompson claims Dwaine Clubb 28 husband of Shirley Preston after his canoe overturned on the Burntwood River on Tuesday June 9. Malcolm Simmons was rescued by an RCMP boat. The community extends sympathy to the Preston family.
Wayne Powell Bob Walker and Richard McKean of Winnipeg spent the weekend at their Miniota homes. The Miniota Collegiate Institute held its banquet and closing exercises on June 12 with awards to Grade 9 to 12 students and a Queen's toast.

Beulah Hall hosted its first junior graduation on Tuesday June 2 with an attractive setting and an able MC leading the evening.
Isabella News notes Mrs Stan Jackson of St Vital visiting with her mother Mrs Teasdale. Winnipeg visitors include Mr and Mrs R Shipley and Mr and Mrs R Searth. Valerie Seaborn of Saskatoon visiting aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Murray Bell. Bud Kelly and daughter of Ottawa visiting Mr and Mrs Dave Bell and Reg Attwood and Sharon at home with Margaret Ariss of Rivers.
The June meeting of the U. C. W. at Mrs. R. Adams home had eight members and two visitors. President Mrs. R. Scarth led devotionals, Rev. J. Sloan reviewed the Word and the Way chapter two, with group discussions following. Next meeting planned August 5 at Mrs. S. Bell’s for chapter seven review.
