Provincial forage crop specialists urge Manitoba farmers to cut alfalfa at bud to one quarter bloom and sweet clover at first bloom. Proper curing preserves leaves which hold most protein and vitamins, while swathers and hay conditioners reduce losses and improve quality.

At the Annual Meeting of the Children’s Aid Society of Western Manitoba in Brandon district citizens were elected to the Board of Directors. Mayor F. J. Dedication to Missions conducted by Rev Bowins on Saturday evening June 6 before the Bazaar and Strawberry Social. Messengers and Tyro groups presented their M and M givings totaling 145.82 to M and M. Graduation certificates were given by Mrs Steen to Anita Lewis etc. Proceeds from bazaar and lunch were 109.83.

Manitoba Centennial Grant Deadline Extended to 1964

The Manitoba Centennial Corporation extended the grant application deadline to December 31 1964 from August 1st at a Citizens Advisory Committee conference in Winnipeg and St Boniface. The extension, requested by several municipalities, aims to allow more time for local project decisions while ensuring completion before the centennial date. Hon Maitland B Steinkopf noted 80 to 85 percent of projects were expected by the original deadline.

SUCCESSFUL CANCER CAMPAIGN AT MINIOTA

A local Cancer Relief and Research campaign in Miniota raised 140.80 dollars. Convenors were Mrs. Gordon Long Mrs. Charles Ellerington and Mrs. A McKean. Canvassers included Mrs. Chas Watts Mrs. J. Popper Mrs. D. Russell and many others.

A drowning near Thompson claims Dwaine Clubb 28 husband of Shirley Preston after his canoe overturned on the Burntwood River on Tuesday June 9. Malcolm Simmons was rescued by an RCMP boat. The community extends sympathy to the Preston family.
