Recreation Director Named for Mid-West District
Sharon Davies is hired as the first Recreation Director of the new Mid-West Recreation District effective June 1. A Toulon Manitoba native, she earned a University of Manitoba BPE in 1974 and has three summers of rural Manitoba recreation planning experience. She previously worked with the Interlake Recreation Branch and helped assemble the Manitoba Games Centennial team. Davies coached Toulon Collegiate girls’ varsity volleyball last fall and enjoys softball, curling, and cross country skiing. Contact 764-2393 at Hamiota Collegiate for details.

Manitoba Jobless Rate Drops
Manitoba May unemployment stand at 3.8 percent of the labour force, second lowest in Canada after Saskatchewan, with a seasonally adjusted rate of 4.3 percent. Unemployed number fell to 17,000 as labour force rose 9,000 to 440,000. total employment up 13,000 to 432,000. Canada overall shows 6.9 percent unemployment, 708,000 unemployed, with 10,285,000 labour force and 9,576,000 employed.

Deadline Set for Manitoba Acreage Reports by June 30
Manitoba Agriculture Minister Sam Uskiw urged Manitoba Crop Insurance Corporation insured farmers to file seeded acreage reports with their local agents by June 30 to avoid a 15 dollar fee. Reports are being mailed to insured farmers in the coming days and may be mailed or delivered in person. The form records acres seeded per crop for which coverage is chosen, with appointment details for agent help included.
