The Oak River Friendship Club receved a New Horizon's grant of 2090 dollars to fund a weekly program of carpet bowling shuffleboard cards and floor shuffleboard in the Arena waiting room with renovations aid. A Board of Directors led by Bob King set up committees to buy equipment and plan programs.

Hearing impaired program to expand at Red River College
Red River Community College will expand services for hearing impaired students this summer through three projects funded with the Department of Continuing Education and Manpower and the Manitoba Youth Secretariat STEP program. Five post secondary students will work on vocabulary drills, dictionary creation with sign language equivalents, and video tapes of deaf conversations to aid interpreter training and reverse translation, with aim to broaden signing styles and improve on campus communication.

Birtle Wins First Fluoridation Aid Grant
WINNIPEG The Town of Birtle will receive up to 8 000 to install fluoridation equipment for its two water sources. Health minister Laurent Desjardins said Birtle is the first to apply for and receive funds from a new department program supporting fluoridation. Manitoba leads in voluntary fluoridation with about 90 percent of piped water supplies fluoridated.
