Ninth Annual Teachers Tour Planned
The ninth Annual Teachers Tour of Manitoba is planned by the Manitoba Department of Education with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and local Chambers. Forty teachers on a bus will visit about 25 communities over roughly 2500 miles in July, starting in Winnipeg and touring west to Portage la Prairie then north and west to Flin Flon and back south to Brandon and the Peace Garden. Leader J W A Muirhead and route coordinator Rod H Thomson guide the itinerary with early Winnipeg stops to visit plants and sites of historical interest.

Continental upgraded for summer service on CN rails
CNs Continental and Super Continental resume sleeping and dining car service to meet heavy travel. The trains offer first class tourist and coach accommodations on the transcontinental route Montreal to Vancouver. Westbound starts June 24 from Winnipeg and eastbound June 26 from Vancouver, running until September 22.

Government Grants Approved for Middlechurch Home
The Middlechurch Home north of Winnipeg will receive about 200000 in provincial grants under the Elderly Persons Housing Act to replace the current facility with a modern 125 bed home. Minister George Johnson praised the board and volunteers guiding the project which is funded by donations grants and loans and aims for a 1000000 total cost.

Archaeology Survey Set for Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids will host a two part archaeology program starting July led by Dr. William J Mayor-Oakes from Stovall Museum University of Oklahoma. Dr Norman Emerson of the University of Toronto conducted a preliminary survey and the project aims to study fur trade routes and prehistoric migration while preserving historic sites. The National Museum of Canada considers cooperation and plans to restore parts of the Hudsons Bay Company tramway for visitors.
