Ball and Chain Clears Parkbelt Brush for Farmland
PFRA’s ball and chain method reduces clearing costs from about 25 to 29 dollars per acre to roughly 3 dollars per acre on large tracts and about 3 dollars per acre for beef yields of 40 to 45 pounds per acre. Manitoba offers service using PFRA gear. The technique involves tractors pulling a four ton steel ball and a chain in a Y shape to fell and pile trees in windrows. Full productive grass returns within two years with grazing recouping costs in about two years.
