The annual memorial service will be held in Miniota on Sunday June 2 at 3 p.m. Major A M Pratt of Birtle will be guest speaker and the Virden Citizens Band will provide music. An evening concert in the park by the Virden Band follows a 2:30 p.m. assembly at the Municipal Wall with a collection at both events.
A notice for Miniocta presents a Sunday School at 3 percent and an Evening Service at 7 30 p m. The brief item lists church activities or meetings for the day.
Minicta offers 11 a m Sunday School and 7 30 p m Evensong and Sermon. Beulah holds 11 a m Sunday School.
A sweep of local notes reports Mrs H D Armitage visiting Eastern Canada, Norma Stowe returning to Bran duties, and Rev A F E Smith receiving a leather club bag and funds from Hamiota parishioners. J D Forsyth and Miss A Ellerington won an antique Maligne Lake painting and crochet pillow ends from the Daughters of England. Local officials, church figures, and residents attend conferences and events in Brandon and area.
Mrs E Wythe and Mrs Cunningham escaped unharmed when the car they rode in turned upside down near Arrow River last Tuesday. The vehicle sustained no damage.
Brandon Fair promises top acts with Ernie Young’s Passing Parade staged each night featuring a lavish revue of youth beauty and grandeur. A Wednesday WA meeting at Mrs B W Birch’s home discussed Winans booth on Field Day grounds and other matters. Mrs K M Oliver elected delegate to the Diocesan Annual Meeting in Brandon.
In quoting figures for the High School Drama League, a prior error occurred. Ar Row River and Beulah each received 10.47, Miniota 10.96 and expenses 12.70, making receipts 345.50 instead of 342.65 as previously reported.
The United Church Women’s Missionary Society met in the church parlor on Wednesday with several members present. Mrs Rollins performed a solo and Mrs Ruus Chalmers gave a report on the recent Presbyterian at Oak River, adding interest to the program. The June meeting will be at Mrs T Long’s home followed by a Silver Tea.
Work will start soon on a hydro project with a station planned above a half mile north of Minota and another at Arrow River. The team will employ many workers and current trouble man Cliff Stedman is to be reassigned to a different site.
A well attended Friday night benefit dance raised funds for victims of misfortune. Tickets had been on sale for weeks, Horner's orchestra and Wilfrid Hill's Merrymakers supplied music, and the district ladies through the WI handled catering. The community presented $112.00 to Mr. and Mrs. A. Lindsay.
