Industry Commerce Grants Are Outlined

Manitoba Industry and Commerce Minister Len Evans outlined 683,738.00 in grants from his department for the year ending March 31, 1977 across multiple programs. Direct grants of 269,125 aided 123 Manitoba firms meeting criteria, prioritizing small and rural businesses with economic and social impact, plus management counselling, product development and marketing support. Additional funds went to the Manitoba Research Council, University of Manitoba, regional development corporations, and provincial airport commissions for various development studies and initiatives.

Deer Archers Season Set Across Manitoba Regions

Manitoba announces a special bow and arrow season for deer across regions including Northern Interlake August 29 to September 17, and Lake Winnipeg areas August 29 to November 5. Duck Mountain Dauphin Riding Mountain central and southwestern zones run August 29 to October 31 or November 12, with Winnipeg southeast areas to November 26. Hunting is banned in refuges and Riding Mountain Park. unsuccessful archers may swap to a firearm license.

Manitoba Farmers Lead Prairie Crop Insurance Uptake

Crop insurance demand rose as drought fears increased. In Manitoba about 17,000 farmers, 80 to 85 percent of eligible, enrolled before April 30, up 15 percent from last year. Manitoba premiums total 17 million with 226 million in liability. the federal government covers half. Across Canada 112,000 farmers enrolled, liability 1.4 billion, premiums 140 million, with 70 million federal contribution. Prairies receive 60 million of that, rest of Canada 10 million. Ontario faced losses from frost and disease.

Good Roads Tour Sets Judging Of Municipal Roads

Manitoba Good Roads Association led by President Martin Wertz announces a three week tour sending four judging teams to assess roads and beautification projects across member municipalities including Farm Home Grounds. Zone four produced multiple trophies in 1976 with R M Russell Roblin Hamiota Miniota Oakburn and Shoal Lake noted. the program marks its 68th year with regional and province wide trophies totaling five.
