Miniota Council Approves By Law and Appoints Officers
The January 11 1961 meeting at Municipal Hall Minsota elected Arnold Stowe L A Hankin and J M Hanlin to the council took their oaths. Reeve Hyndman presided and committee appointments were set including deputy reeve D L Stewart and road machinery and hospital boards. Grants to institutions and memberships in associations were approved along with by law 1407 herd by law and routine financials and adjournment to February 6.

The Western Zone playdowns for the British Consols curling event drew strong local interest on Saturday January 14. Miniota skipped by Roy McCaw with Don Forsyth C Argue and Vernon Leland won the final against Isabella skipped by W Gilchrist after decisive wins over Arrow River J Clegg and Birtle G E Goodmanson by narrow margins.

Potato Club Meet Plans Projects and Donations
The Potato Club met at Vernon Lelond home with Mrs. Douglas Lelond guiding first year members. Ken Powell led second and third year topics while Mrs. V Lelond covered fourth and fifth projects. They cleared 28 from lunches at a Massey Ferguson event, donating half to the year's project to paint the rink waiting room, and gave 5 each to Club Council March of Dimes and Red Cross. They will plant Norland Potatoes again and present a musical at the 4 H Amateur Night in Hamiota.

MI Iota Merry Stitchers Meet
The Miniota Merry Stitchers held a January 12 business meeting at Mrs. J. Wiens home with 17 members present. A 4 H bonspiel was planned for February 4. Ann Armitage spoke on Malaria and Carol Goodwin spoke on Water Conservation. A contest directed by Mrs. C. McKean was enjoyed and lunch was served.

Congregational Meetings Report 1960 Church Year
The annual Congregational Meeting heard 17 present and noted 3 baptisms, 1 wedding, 1 death removal, and 29 pastoral calls in 1960. Officers and committees were appointed for 1961 including a reduced Board of Stewards and new organist and choir leadership. A separate Isabella United Church meeting reported balanced commitments and funds raised for M and M, United Colleges, and various missions.

The January meeting at the Community Centre featured Corporal Forbes RCMP speaking on safe driving and rear end collisions. Mrs. Roy Leland thanked him while Mrs. Ellerington led a safety hints roll call. Donations were approved to the Peace Garden Project and other groups. A new library will be ordered January 27.

Joseph William Cotton Dies at Minnedosa Nursing Home
Sympathy is extended to Mrs. R J Adams and family on the death of her brother Joseph William Cotton at a Minnedosa nursing home on January 18. The funeral at Isabella Church followed by burial in Isabella Cemetery. He was born September 18 1875 in Wiarton Ontario and lived in Manitoba Alberta and British Columbia. He is survived by his sister Mrs. R J Adams of Isabella. Les Adams and his wife attended the funeral.
