Hercules Durum Wheat Named Canada Wide License
Canada announces licensing of Hercules a new durum wheat variety developed at Winnipeg Research Station. It matures earlier than Stewart 63 and has shorter stronger straw aiding Manitoba Saskatchewan black soil zones. Yields compare with Stewart 63 in favorable areas with good rust resistance and first Canadian durum with loose smut resistance. Pedigreed seed expanding in 1969 with public access by 1970. Federal Grain cautions on home germination tests for frosted grain and distorted seedlings. Dr Nesbitt speaks in Hamiota January 29 1969 to discuss course follow ups in the Community Room at 8 pm.
