The congregation of the United Church will hold its annual meeting in Miniota on Monday January 26 at 7 p m. Reports of the past year will be heard and officers for 1931 will be elected. A cordial invitation is extended to all members and adherents to attend.
The Ladies Aid of the United Church held their annual meeting on Wednesday afternoon last electing President Mrs G Reynolds Vice President Mrs J Spalding Secretary Miss Lynch for 1951. A silver tea followed at Mrs J Spalding's residence raising $10.
The Young Peoples Society of the United Church held its regular Wednesday night meeting at the home of Mr and Mrs T G Long. The well attended program featured talks by Rev J A Stephen and others.
The Annual meeting of the Sunday School Council of the Miniota United Church was held with a large turnout. Ben S Woods presided. officers for 1931 were named across Bible Class to Junior Choir including J W Clarke Mrs G Rowan D McLennan Mrs Spence Mrs Dart and others. the session closed after a dainty lunch and Mizpah Benediction.
Mason Recter of the Anglican churches at Dealah and Miniota sails to St Janee for his marriage to Miss A Pildrem of that town. The ceremony is set for Wednesday evening in St James Anglican church.
A reorganization meeting of the local Boy Scouts Association elected officers for the year led by President J J Henderson and Scoutmaster Rev W P Mason. The first Troop meeting is set for Friday February 6 with expected male entrants urged to sign up with Rev Mason.
The province prepares to convene on Tuesday January 27 as lawmakers face pressure to reduce costs. Citizens note lower salaries for the general public and propose substantial cuts for legislators, arguing travel within the province costs nothing and a 2000 dollar yearly reduction plus 850 dollars could be reasonable.
Premier John Bracken of Manitoba released a statement after a Winnipeg meeting with premiers and Rt. Hon. Bennett. He said natural resources talks cleared minor transfer difficulties and that cooperation will improve on old age pensions with the Dominion paying 95 percent of costs. He called for a future Dominion provincial conference to address Imperial Conference questions.
