New crop varieties released for 1978 planting
Several new varieties are on offer this year with limited seed stocks. Coulter durum wheat is the sole new wheat variety, mid early and short with strong straw and excellent yield, but seed supply will be tight. Two rapeseed varieties Candle and Regent are recommended. Candle is a turnip rapeseed with low erucic acid and low glucosinolate content, while Regent, Argentine and similar to Tower, offers comparable oil and protein content and slightly higher yield. Order early due to potential seed shortages.
