Community milk program aids Shoal Lake children

Thanks to Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges, all primary pupils in Shoal Lake now receive a pint of fresh milk daily. The Miniota W I postponed its meeting to honor Mrs. W L Hodnett. Dr J S Stewart from Oak River visited the local I O O F lodge as D D G M to install officers. The Isabella and Blaris senior hockey teams played, with Blaris defeating Isabella 10 to 3.

Miniota Beats Beulah 8-6 In Open Hockey Clash

Miniota hockey team visited Beulah Tuesday night and won 8-6 in a fast noisy game. The return at Miniota Monday ended 3 all with both teams sharing the points.

Beware of linoleum peddlers selling cheap inferior goods

District residents report buying linoleum from peddlers who claim to dispose of stock cheaply. They found the product was of inferior grade, short on yardage, and costly to buyers. The notice warns to check for a transient trader license and to favor reputable local merchants offering square deals.

At the 21st convention in Winnipeg delegates pass a voluntary contract pool to manage the 1924 wheat crop by a two thirds plus vote. Three delegates oppose. The convention also backs the U.G.G. cattle pool with strong support.

Winter Travelers and a Northern Gold Deposit

Fifteen years ago J R Elliott spent the winter in Detroit. Jim Mackee went to work at the Royal Bank in La Riviere. Mildred Bell of Blaris left for a hospital training school in Saskatoon. Mr and Mrs John Ringland headed to spend the rest of winter in Sarnia Ontario. A rich gold deposit was discovered in the Herb Lake district north of The Pas.

Lowering Canadian tariffs to boost wheat sales abroad

H G S Strange argues that reducing tariffs will let foreign buyers, including Germany, purchase more Canadian wheat with Canadian dollars earned from German imports. He notes a 1936 Ottawa trade agreement requiring Germany to buy Canadian goods and 35 percent of payments in Canadian dollars, and says increased German imports will raise wheat exports, likely applying to other nations as well.
