Refugees flee East Germany as weeks pass with Canadian aid reaching out through Berlinn and CARE Canada. Contributions from multiple satellites continue to arrive in West Germany supporting aid efforts and refugee relief.
Local and General Minota WoT plan a meeting at the Community Centre on Saturday February 14 at 2 30 pm. Mr and Mrs R E Lye of MacGregor visited with Mir and Mrs 0 Salaeanes. World Day of Prayer service set for Holy Trinity Church on Friday February 13 at 2 30 pm. Donations of 5146 from Minota Community and School the March of Dimes sent under Mission Band auspices with Mr and Mrs Dave Hill of Dauphin visiting town and with Mrs Hill in hospital. L S Hodnett Fred Bryant and Vernon Leland left for Los Angeles and Pacific Coast trip. Rev A M Watts Mrs d Stowe and Mr and Mrs Gordon Long attended winter meeting of Bir tle Presbytery at Strathclair. Mrs G Reynolds Mrs F Rowan and Mrs Chas Armitage visited to discuss proposed United Church Sunday School curriculum.
Mrs. M. Curry hosted Joly Trinity W.A. Thursday with Mrs. Collier reading the Newsletter on training girls for Indian Schools and Un ted Pledge Fund aid to 17 schools and missionaries. Delegates to the Diocesan Annual Meeting were named for Brandon March 18 and 19. Sewing for McKay Indian School at Dauphin was distributed. March meeting to be at Mrs. Roy Lelond’s home.
Collier memorial notice for Mary Collier who died February 5 1948. She was a mother and grandma described as loving kind upright and sincere, with a faithful heart until the end.
Flight Lieutenant Robert Chisholm 34, son of Mr and Mrs J Chisholm Beulah Manitoba, promoted to Squadron Leader. He commands pilots in 407 Maritime Patrol Squadron flying Lancaster and Neptune on Pacific reconnaissance. His career spans Bran don Winnipeg Saskatoon Trenton London and others with 415 Squadron Halifax service overseas and postwar postings.
The Birtle team won the challenge event at a local high school bonspiel with 22 entriesfrom Birtle Elkhorn Arrow River Isabella Decker Two Weeks Crandall Miniota Oak River and Miniota. Ian Bates of Elkhorn took second, Bob McKean of Miniota third, Sid Valentine fourth. Ice results list R Jenner Elkhorn Clare Shoe maker Decker Brian Honey Birtle Garth Sararas Miniota. Sararas drew the mats and lunches were provided by the girls.
A Mission Band meeting on February 6 at the school opened with worship and included regular business and the giving of Lenton boxes. Cards and stamps were collected to aid those in need. The January 36 meeting had 43 members present and the group raised 44.31 from school children for the March of Dimes. An action song and a game of Charades were enjoyed, with Wade Hamstock and Linda Goodmanson assisting in the business section.
