Canadian Boy Scouts mark World Scouting Week February 17 to 24 with the theme Salute to Scouting Round the World. International greetings will go from Earle T. Moore to 72 countries as Cubs Scouts and Rovers exchange letters and badges, fostering global understanding.
Prize table for Crandall Bonspiel includes multiple categories and winners from Crandall Hamiota Miniota and Arrow River. Notable awards cover hats wallets blankets gloves and various household goods with a grand aggregate tie between Garth Strachan and Donald Lee and additional mentions of lodging at St Regis and hard luck awards for E Wallace.
Crandall W I in Hamiota held a January meeting in church parlors with 17 members and 33 visitors. Rev Baycroft spoke on Civil Defence and financial reports showed jamboree and bonspiel activities with funds allocated to rink and community canvass. The WI Fund stood at 154.14 and Community Fund at 426.74. The February WS meeting is set for February 27 at Mrs Schoch’s home.
The Ladies Aid of Ham iota Hospital District No 7 met January 25 in the community room with Mrs L Wright presiding. Sixteen districts attended. Treasurer Mrs E A Dixon reported a balance of 1288.52 and presented the 1962 financials. Nurse Dunn summarized hospital work, allocations were debated, and the total annual allocation remained 1465 with meeting closing benediction.
Mrs. A Irvine remains a patient in Hamiota Hospital. Miss Lorraine Rudd is employed there. Crandall High School Bonspie started at 4 15 Thursday with 23 rinks. Visiting rinks from Hamiota Oak River Rivers and Kenton. Mr N Peech has been ill. Mrs H Lints Decker has been substituting.
Mr and Mrs Gardham Sr travel to Winnipeg to see daughter Mrs Johnston. A local bonspiel proceeds totaled $66 with Pat Frazer’s rink scoring a six ender. Donations from Manitoba Farmers Union and Student Council supported events and quilt making by UCW members.
Beulah 12 and under hockey team faced Isabella at Beulah with Isabella winning after Saturday play. Also notes Beulah planned Thursday rematch at Isabella with Beulah again favored. Russell and Vicki Laube announce the birth of a daughter on February 1 1963 at Lampman hospital, a sister for Shelly. Mr D MacDonald traveled to Winnipeg for medical treatment. Mrs K Mann visiting Neepawa this week.
Beulah High School held its annual bonspiel from January 24 to 26 with ten rinks. Althea Amy skip led the Grand Challenge team to first, while Bob Sawyer skip won the Consolation Event with Doris Lindenback and Larry Gies. Prizes included donated items from local clubs and individuals.
Local arrivals friends and visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Les Adams of Winnipeg visiting Mrs. R Adams and families. Mrs. Lorne Wright hosts, and a new baby James Ian Littlejohn is welcomed. Eddie Young recovers from an appendectomy in Hamiota hospital. Dr Shebenski speaker at Miniota on Iron Countries. Dr Prior addresses World Missions audience on Asia Rim topics. U C W unit met at Mrs. Al Clarke’s with eight members and discussed nursing in India and war orphans. WI held February meeting at Mrs Reg Attwood’s with Pennies for Friendship and handicraft displays.
Miniota reports arrival of Extension Service Library books available for lending. Queen Scout David Coupland of Hamiota to attend World Jamboree in Marathon, Greece from August 1 to 11. Dr. Shebeski from the University of Manitoba spoke on January 30. Various local events include hospital patient notices, bingo team activities, church meetings, and school dances and games.
Beulah and Decker Women's Institute members planned serving lunches at the Bonspiel. History Convenor Mrs R Dor an read an article on F W 10. and Mrs R Campbell reported on the January Hospital Aid meeting. Mrs Ray Still gave a Cross Stitch demonstration and attendees received materials to complete a sample. Seventeen members attended with guest Home Economist Mrs Maxine Heritage. Tea hostesses were Mrs L Gilchrist, Mrs J Dagg and Mrs Reg Attwood.
The passage cautions that rats mice flies and other pests thrive where sanitation is poor in eateries. It urges notifying the local health department if vermin or chipped unwashed dishes are found to enforce sanitary regulations and prevent disease spread.
