Hong Kong Defenders Surrender After Heavy Battle

Christmas day reports say Hong Kong defenders were forced to surrender as water shortages and overwhelming odds doomed relief. Canadian units Quebec Royal Rifles and 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers fought valiantly, with heavy casualties reported. Local servicemen named include Mickey Grainger, Percy Mes, Jim Jackson, Jack Iverach, Wilf Barrett, Don MacPherson, and Norman Walker. Wilf Middleton was hospitalized 39 days.
