A wartime Christmas message honors the first Noel and the fight for freedom. It recalls spiritual roots in Bethlehem and urges steadfast sacrifice to preserve democratic principles, faith, and free speech amidst a world at war.
The year ends with a tribute to local boys serving overseas to defend their cause. We think of those in Hong Kong as they face a tough position, confident they will prove as brave as the 1914 18 veterans and bring honor to their battalion.
Don Forsyth recovered well after an appendicitis operation in Shoal Lake last week. The Pope General store burning, first destroyed fifteen years ago, burned again on Friday night. Mr and Mrs John Spalding attended their second son Edwin John Spalding’s wedding to Dorothy Ellis in Sparling United Church Winnipeg. Rev Geo A McMillan officiated.
The Glenrochar Xmas tree concert on Saturday night provided a fun program and a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. A Lovatt Kitty Goodwin. The hostesses read the address and Jean Walk drew a miniature house filled with gifts.
The guest of honor, along with Tommy Ellerington, received many gifts and offered a gracious reply of thanks for the generosity.
Holy Trinity church members attended an A Y P A meeting Tuesday night where slides on Mission work in China were shown followed by games and social time. Friday’s Christmas Tree concert featured carols gifts by Santa Claus and a lively evening. Sunday at 7 30 a Christmas service with Holy Communion planned.
Lenore Copland is welcomed by Mr and Mrs Wm Copland with a son born at Hamiota hospital on Saturday December 20th. The birth adds to the family as they celebrate the new arrival.
