DSC C W Ellerington drove stock to Winnipeg today as Christmas bonus chatter swirls. Miss McMillan of Winnipeg visited Rev G A McMillan’s home. A December 17 skating and tennis outing drew curious locals with photos to prove it. Mr and Mrs R V Andrew and family left for Shoal Lake, Vern heads to Flin Flon for work, Mrs Andrew and family plan to stay with Mr and Mrs Henderson while substitutes teach. Termuende’s time here wins many friends as she moves to a new field.

Dance at Miniota Hall features Arrow River Orchestra

Miniota Hall hosts a dance Friday December 22 from 11 to 3 with music by the Arrow River Orchestra and admission set at 3 cents. A separate note reports the Manitoba Poultry Pool Miniota local shipping 7497 lbs of dressed poultry including turkeys chickens geese remarking on various grades.

White Gift Services Light Up United Churches

White Gift services were held in the United churches on Sunday and a splendid array of gifts were received for local distribution to the needy and to various institutions. At Crandall a species candlelight service was enjoyed under the leadership of the Mission Band.

Miss E Termuende, a member of the Minicta teaching staff for two and a half years, departs at the start of the new year to Dauphin. She will pursue new opportunities there.

First Canadian Troops Reach England Amid Expectation

The first Canadian contingent has arrived safely in England amid surprise news on Monday. Convoyed by British and Canadian forces, they underwent no incidents and will begin front line training after a few months. Officials expect them to uphold Canada’s wartime traditions.

Canadian Women and the War discussed by W I met

The W I met on Thursday afternoon presided by Mrs R K Chalmers Carol singing opened and returned throughout. Mrs C E Wythe presented a paper on Canadian Women and the War. Mrs R M Oliver was chosen to attend the Institute Achievement Day in Virden. Local soldiers will be remembered at Christmas and the library to be disposed of after the new year. Lunch included a bag of candy and a fortune for each member.
