Health Centre Auxiliary Meets in Hamiota November 1976
The Health Centre Auxiliary held its November 26 1976 meeting in the Board Room chaired by Mrs Merle Argue. Nine districts were represented. Treasurer Grace Anderson reported a bank balance of 3189 34. October hospital data showed 23 adults and 1 newborn with 66 admissions 81 3 occupancy 8 day average stay 11 major 15 minor operations 128 outpatient visits 35 minor outpatient operations 36 accidents 2 bottles Red Cross blood used 5 ambulance trips 18 home care patients 28 workers 128 visits 438 mobile meals. In Hamiota 24 meals 18 volunteers 3 clients Oak River 16 meals 2 volunteers. Florence Strachan hired for housekeeping. Winnipeg medical student finished November 19. Baby Clinic run by Kathy Gwyer Pat Tremaine and Pat Cochrane. Last clinic had 31. Attendance at Safety Courses up. New transport incubator used to send a newborn to Brandon. Mr Sheardown attended bargaining workshop at St Benedicts Middlechurch. Hadland and Dillon attended Winnipeg Health Centre Meeting. Staff raffling two items a Mr and Mrs Santa Claus set and a lamp. proceeds fund equipment for future Personal Care Home and occupational activities. Hospital staff donated 250 toward pool table for solarium. Supply Committee making tray favors for Christmas. Donation Secretary reported books and toys for Children’s Ward from Lenore. No December meeting. next January 28 1977. Meeting adjourned with Mizpah Benediction.

No Autopac Rate Increases for Manitoba Auto Insurance
Manitoba Minister Peter Burtniak announced no general Autopac rate increase for 1977. He cited a strong year with about 180000 claims in 1975 76 and a surplus near 14 million, to be used for deficits and catastrophe reserves, while noting low administrative expenses and the province’s low premiums claim.

Alert devices to test drivers added in Manitoba
Manitoba Attorney General Howard Pawley announced December 8 the RCMP and local police will use Operation ALERT roadside alcohol readers. The battery operated devices give pass, warning, or fail readings to guide whether a breathalyzer test is needed. Refusal to test remains illegal and possible 24 hour licence suspension is being considered for warnings.

Seminar on Continuing Adult Education At Manitoba
One hundred forty attendees from diverse backgrounds gathered at the University of Manitoba to discuss Continuing Adult Education for all. The opening panel included representatives of senior citizens labor women native groups and rural areas. Mrs Doug Leland spoke on rural needs and university assistance while a second panel offered educational field perspectives. A founding council was elected with Mrs Leland as rural representative to continue improvements across educational fields.
