The Soil Conservation Forage Policy is back with seed priced at $2.00 per acre plus shipping. Farmers may buy for 10 to 30 acres per year and may renew for subsequent years. Nine mixtures address erosion salinity and wet areas with first come first served seed allotment and Oct 28, 1964 order deadline.
The advisory stresses storing food for the winter and warns that the thistle’s main role now is to restore stolen plant nutrients to the roots. Cultivation is needed to prevent reserve buildup. delaying will undo prior control. If time is tight, spraying 116 oz of 2 4 D or MCP can substitute two cultivations. Neglect here risks failure in eradication.
Funeral service for Eze Granger, who died in Birtle hospital on August fifth, was held at St. Wilfreds Anglican Church Beulah on August 8 with Rev. Flint officiating. Born August 8 1883 in Radley England he came to Canada in 1907 later moving to Tilston and Beulah. He leaves wife two daughters Rosie Nellie of Winnipeg a son Edward of Beulah ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and was predeceased by son W A Mickey in 1944 in Japan. Interment was at Beulah cemetery.

The Birdtail River School Division No 38 held a regular meeting at Shoal Lake on August 4 1964 with Trustees Stimpson Selby Fulton Rapley Prescott Kup. Motions adopted include approving July 30 1964 minutes and requiring written applications for students requesting to attend nonhome schools. The board also approved handling correspondence and adjourned to reconvene August 7 1964 at Crandall.
The writer notes Ching Ming and Easter holidays, a March 27 to April 7 break, and a Queen's Birthday celebration in Hong Kong with schools closed. Typhoon Viola brought heavy rain and staged water restrictions from 4 pm to 8 pm daily. Cholera scares persist with a Kowloon restaurant closed and residents isolated. vaccinations were given and health remains careful.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bell and their three sons from Calgary visit Mr. and Mrs. D. Bell and family. Rick Borland of Winnipeg spent the week end with them.
