Farm Notes covers Noxious Weeds Act enforcement and weed seed control with Ken nedy the weed supervisor stressing mowing when needed to avoid spread. It also gives Fed grant grain truck tarp benefits and detailed barley harvest guidance from Dave Durksen, including moisture targets, kernel quality, skinned and broken kernels risks, timing, and combine settings for optimal threshing.
Premier Ed Schreyer challenged business and industry to rapidly raise productivity, linking higher wages to productivity and warning against isolating debates. He urged use of government programs in advisory services, technical assistance, design, R and D, licensing, manpower development, export promotion, and an expanded role for the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce in regional development. He said a fall conference would seek chamber involvement and guidance.
On Wednesday afternoon August 6 six W I members Mrs Hynd man Ada Fleming Mrs Shier Mrs Kolac Mrs Taylor and Mrs Hankin hosted grandmothers of the community The program featured a saxophone number by Ken Smith and Scott Coupe with bag pipes a sing song led by Mrs Taylor and accompanist Mrs Smith Prizes were awarded for oldest grandmother youngest grandmother most grandchildren and youngest grandchild A lunch for 36 guests followed in the church basement ending a pleasant afternoon.
Induction took place August 1 in Miniota United Church for Rev. Robert A. Kayes and Rev. James Maxwell as joint leaders of the new Birtle Miniota Wider Parish uniting Beulah Birtle Isabella and Miniota congregations. Rev H J Harland presided as Birtle Presbytery chairperson and Rev Angus McColl preached the sermon. A social hour followed in the Miniota Sports Arena Centennial Room.
Park Lodge sympathy extends to families of the late Mrs Wiggin s. Miss Dorothy Slaughters and Mrs Audrey Fotheringham of Winnipagg visited Mrs Barnes. Mr and Mrs Jim Stewart of Detroit and others spent weekends visiting relatives in Winnipeg Rivers Virden and Brandon. Bridal shower for Linda Armitage noted.
