Farmers to Get Lower Medium-Term Loan Rates
Manitoba Agricultural Credit Corporation moves to intermediate-term loans under the new plan effective July 10 1977. Rates for ten years or less drop by about one percent, with a further two percent reduction for farmers and fishermen under 35. Eighty percent of recent loans were to young applicants, and total M.A.C.C. disbursed funds reach about 76 million dollars since inception, excluding land leases with separate terms.

Manitoba Women's Institute Board Meeting Recap
The Manitoba Women's Institute held a July 5 6 Winnipeg board meeting with full attendance. Representatives were named to Manitoba Farm Bureau Safety Council Peace Garden Consumers Association of Canada Council of Women Manitoba Historical Society and Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. Standing committees chosen and next year priorities set. The South West B region will lead a prenatal and child nutrition study. A report notes 300 school tours in May and June reaching about 1800 children through Manitoba Farm Vacations. A $50 donation was approved to the Hall of Fame to be housed at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum near Austin. 1978 provincial convention dates June 6 8 in Brandon with tentative dates for six regional conventions from late April 1978. The institute will be represented by President Mrs Eileen Brake and President-Elect Mrs Kathleen Hamblin at the Associated Country Women of the World conference in Nairobi Kenya in October 1977.

Midwest Recreation District reports progress on the district summer beautification project with all nine communities completed and two weeks left for final touches. A July 28 senior bus tour to Baldur attracted 35 travelers from Miniota Hamiota and Kenton plus 430 attendees at the Westman picnic. Red Dolphin Swim Club held a second annual meet with teams from Melita Souris Virden Hamiota and Carberry. Golf clinics ran in Hamiota and Miniota with 20 and 6 participants respectively, and tennis lessons continue at Hamiota Collegiate conducted by Barry Gooden of Brandon.

Plan Standard Accounting for Manitoba School Divisions
Education Minister Ian Turnbull announced J.S. Richmond C.A. as officer to develop a standardized code of accounts for Manitoba School Divisions and districts. Richmond, also chairman of the Public Schools Finance Board, will have a revised code ready for pilot testing next school year. Groundwork was laid by the Manitoba Association of School Business Officials committee on standardized accounting, with Trustees represented. Chairman Neil MacDonald is secretary treasurer of Birdtail River school division.

Tenders Called for Brandon Mental Health Center Upgrades
Public Works Minister Russell Doern announced tenders for alterations to the Parkland Building at Brandon Mental Health Center. The project covers a new ventilation system in seven dining rooms and cafeteria, with work starting mid September and finishing early next year. Tenders close August 11 1977. Overall cost about one million dollars including laundry, parking lot improvements and Valleyview Building renovations.
