Miniota Rural Council Meets Approve Grants and Tax Actions

Miniota Manitoba council meeting on April 6 1965 with full attendance. Actions include increasing grant to Children’s Aid Society to 250 dollars and paying the Municipal Commissioners levy of 2866.60 dollars. Bylaw 1496 read third time for tax prepayment and requests a public health nurse for Miniota Village. Tax sale notices and park development discussions for Oak Lake area are noted.

Public Speaking Finals Highlight Hamiota Shoal Lake 4-H

Six contestants from Hamiota and Shoal Lake districts competed in the Inter District 4-H Public Speaking finals held April 12 at Minn iota Collegiate Auditorium. Janice Butcher won top honors with 4-H in Our Family and will advance to the inter provincial finals in Winnipeg.

Minjota W I Meeting Presided At Centre April 9

Mrs C Armitage led the W I at the Community Centre with 15 members and 12 visitors present. The motto He Who Plants a Tree, plants Love was read, and a Roll call noted. The cancer canvass is set for the first week in May and 21 books were donated to the W I library by Mrs W Trout. Two 4 H demonstrations were given Slip ons by Debbie Richardson and Rowan, and Dirty Dishes.

Miniota W I Meet Highlights Community Fund Gain

The Woman's League met in the church parlor with 14 members attending and a donation of a teaspoon. Treasurer reports 757.20 in Community Fund with 80 from a tele phone whist and 38.70 from ice carnival lunches. Mrs Robi Schoch attended the Manitoba Annual Red Cross Meeting in Winnipeg and gave a report on work committee meetings. Mrs Herb Smith's music pupils entertained after the meeting. Lanch was served.

Crandall Potato And Garden Club Meeting Recap

The Crandall club met at the school on April 14 with 16 members and the leader present. Members voted to send 10 to the Manitoba 4-H Council and 5 to the Easter Seal Campaign, discussed selling Slow Vehicle Signs and club uniforms, and distributed garden seeds at the end.

Miniota Merry Homemakers Meet Minutes Report

The Miniota Merry Homemakers met in the school auditorium on April 15. Seventeen girls answered roll call. The cabinet sewing machine sale was decided. An achievement event planned for May 11 at the Community Centre with a 2 percent admission. Bake sale April 3 praised. Sharon Leland won a raffled week-end suitcase. Debbie Richardson and Aoie Rowan demonstrated slip on while Kathy Kingdon and Rita Hanlin demonstrated Dirty Dishes. Executive meeting planned to prepare for the achievement. The meeting adjourned.

Easter Weekend Visitation Highlights District Social Roundup

Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Lewis for Easter holidays included Mr. and Mrs. B. Grafton and family of Winnipeg. Also present were Mrs. Lewis of Portage La Prairie, Mrs. Nelson Henderson, Hazel Angus, and Marion Henderson from General Hospital, who spent the weekend with friends Mr. and Mrs. N. Henderson.

Isabella U C W Meet Reveals Brazil Study and Plans

A general Isabella U C W meeting at the church on Tuesday April 13 featured an Easter devotional led by the group, reports from the Secretary and Treasurer, and announcement of a Leadership Council to meet in Birtle on April 27. Committees were formed for an April 23 rummage sale. Mrs. Johnnie Finkbeiner led a Brazil study on Brazilian culture while Mrs. George Lawn outlined transportation. A Burlington Ont youth choir record of Brazilian and Trinidad music delighted attendees, followed by a Brazil quiz led by Mrs J E Finkbeiner. The session ended with Mizpah Benediction.
