Shona Lelond and Gary Lelond will represent Hamio ta area at 4H Youth Leadership Week in Winnipeg during the Easter recess. A total of 104 senior Manitoba 4-H members will participate in a mock parliament to learn government processes and public speaking. The event runs April 19 to 22 at the University of Manitoba with lectures on readership, problem solving, and career opportunities ending in a final banquet by R. A. Wallace.

Parents Meet at Miniota Community Centre
A well attended meeting of parents was held at the Miniota Community Centre on Wednesday evening. Trustee Lawrence Reynolds of Ward 5 answered questions on the proposed general course and long range plans to close smaller high schools. Future meetings with Education Department reps were planned to keep residents informed and allow input. The event was sponsored by the Miniota and District Chamber of Commerce and chaired by W. A. Barrett.

McGregor Pushes Unemployment Insurance for Farm Labor
Manitoba legislator Morris D. McGregor urged extending unemployment insurance to farm laborers to curb farm labor shortages and keep wages from flowing to the United States. He cited $120,000 paid to Americans in harvests and said federal talks might include farm workers under unemployment insurance. Manitoba Pasture Renovation Aid Plan For Weed Control Districts
Farmers in organized weed control districts may apply for up to 80 dollars per district for initial pasture treatment under a provincial program. Assistance covers one dollar per acre for half the sprayed area up to 160 acres to reach the 80 dollar maximum, with 50 cents per acre for retreatment up to 40 dollars. Spraying must occur after scrub leaves appear and before July 10, using either ground equipment or aircraft, with applications filed through local Weed Control Boards and municipal offices.

Mrs Powell and Ken spent the weekend in Winnipeg. The first gopher of the season was seen last Thursday. Mr and Mrs Bill McDonald and family of Sioux Lookout Ontario are visiting at the Wm Leland home. Adult Sewing Class led by Mrs Heritage is on the evening of April 21. Everyone welcome. Mr and Mrs McKenzie visit with his brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs James Ewing Ancaster Ontario. Mr and Mrs Lou Leland returned from Vancouver where their grandson David Anderson won trophies in bagpipe competition. Congratulations to the Miniota Hotel rink for fourth place in the third event at the Virden spiel last week.

Mr Chas Hill of Winnipeg visited Miniota and Arrow River relatives. The C E group meeting in Miniota was canceled to attend a session at Miniota where Lawrence Reynolds spoke on school changes. Christian Education study set for April 14 at 8 p.m. in the school. Good Friday service at Arrow River Church at 11 a.m. April 16. A family gathering at Lenore marked Mr Tom McWhirter’s birthday.

Beulah Hall Club Holds Meeting and Hall Improvements
Beulah Hall Club met at the home of Meda Medd on April 5 with nine members. B Medd chaired. reports were read. Improvements include benches, interior painting, floor sanding, and basement painting. Four months 1965 receipts $971.86 with expenses $920.40. A Smorgasbord was held in March and a dance planned for April 19 with Qu Appelle Valley Boys. Gratitude expressed to helpers in cleaning, painting, and events.

A ten week stay in Osprey Florida ends with happiness to be home. Mrs L Wright visited Brandon with her daughter and family. The Mesenger group sent over fifty pounds of Sunday School papers to a mission school in Trinidad. A Community Centre variety concert featured piano and vocal solos and slides of Hawaii. A bake sale and candy sale aided funds for Explorer and Cub camping gear. Mr A Norrie served as Master of Ceremonies.
