After a Winnipeg meeting on April 15 1977 Premier Edward Schreyer of Manitoba and Quebec intergovernmental affairs minister Claude Morin announced plans to intensify projects in French education and culture across primary to postsecondary levels. Teachers Propose Amendment to 1976 Collective Agreement

Crandall The Birdtail River Teachers Association has submitted proposed amendments to the 1976 collective agreement. They seek 13 to 14 percent salary hikes over the 1976 arbitration award, a 28 percent boost in administrative allowances, payouts for unused sick leave or termination, transfers consultation, higher multi course teaching allowances, moving expenses, and a lay-off clause. The 1977 Anti Inflation Board guideline allows an 8 percent salary increase, and the board will present its opening proposal soon.

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 sets a 1977 budget of 3,429,783.00 dollars, up 129,357.00 from 1976 or 3.91 percent, within education minister guidelines. Expenditures trimmed by five teaching staff and lower capital needs. mill rate at 47.24 mills per acre, 267 mills on balanced assessment, adding about 13.00 dollars in annual tax on a 5000.00 assessed quarter section.
