Encephalitis Surveillance Program to Resume in 1977
Manitoba will restart an encephalitis surveillance program in spring and summer 1977 with Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, relying on mosquito collections and sentinel animal flocks. Flocks will number 15 sentinel chickens and 5 rabbit sites to monitor infection and antibody levels across multiple locations. Live mosquito trapping and testing will be conducted, with Cadham Public Health Laboratory handling lab work and 17 students hired under STEP assisting.
