Wallace Named Manitoba Agriculture Deputy Minister
R A Wallace was appointed Manitoba Deputy Minister of Agriculture to take the post in May as Esmond Jarvis departs for an Ottawa federal associate deputy minister role. A Kenton district native, Wallace joined the government in 1950 after Manitoba University degrees in agriculture and soils. He led the soils division from 1958 to 1964 and has held senior roles including assistant deputy minister since 1964. He also led Winnipeg’s Agriculture Institute of Canada branch and served on the Manitoba Agronomist Institute executive.

Enns Takes Throttle at Sod Turning Ceremony
About 150 people gathered at the Agricultural Museum of Manitoba in Austin on Saturday April 15 for the sod turning of a new 120 by 70 foot centennial building. Hon Henry Enns Minister of Agriculture started the plow with Gary Scott Steam engine and C A Hotel held the plow. Construction will begin after frost loosens to pour the concrete foundation. The building will be ready for the Threshermen’s Reunion July 26 to 29. Afterward attendees were hosted by Mr Powers curator’s home with coffee and donuts served by the Museum’s Women’s Auxiliary. The museum sits one mile south of the Trans Canada Highway on Highway 34, half a mile west of Austin.

Birdtail River School Board Meeting at Shoal Lake
The Birdtail River School Division No 38 held its board meeting at Shoal Lake on Friday April 7 1967 from 430 pm to 1130 pm. Trustees present were Rankin Stimpson Fulton Clark Rapley Randell and Selby along with Inspector Funk and Wm Davison. Also noted were the Western Region In Service Education Committee in relation to an in service meeting Ray Simms on Retarded Children and IBM discussions.
